Our Electoral Workgroup focuses on building working-class political engagement at all levels of government, bridging knowledge gaps with equitable political history education, and supporting candidates for public office that align with the DSA platform. An informed electorate is a powerful one!

Our Labor Committee works with labor unions and organizations organizing around labor issues to build worker power in the region. The goal is to win more union contracts, organize for community benefits agreements, and build more democratic workplaces across Alabama.

Our semi-quarterly zine, called the River Region Radical, is a short educational and politically oriented publication. Members of our community create articles to inform, educate, and mobilize people. Unlike formal reports or academic texts, zines are meant to be readable and usable by people without prior expertise. They often use plain language, visuals, and short sections to make information easy to digest

Join us on the third Saturday of every month as we gather to cook for and feed our unhoused neighbors and those with food insecurity. We also run regular collection drives to hand out essential items such as school supplies, winter supplies, non-perishable food items, and more.

By partnering with established organizations in Birmingham and Montgomery that provide mutual aid to our immigrant neighbors and those detained by ICE, we're building toward a future in which we're able to stand in full solidarity with the immigrant community in the River Region.

Our monthly book club, where we meet to discuss and debate our current reads, to share our unique perspectives on the book of the month, and to expand our knowledge and challenge our privilege in order to better understand our history, our current political struggles, the motivations and conditions of the dispossessed, and how we can build a better future together. Also, we eat ice cream.
